SMRT TRAIN MODES

Automated Manual (AM,no light)-The train will drive automatically.Driver will just open and close the doors. Coded Manual(CM,orange light)-Driver will drive the train and operate the doors. Restricted Manual(RM,flashing orange light)-The train will travel at a speed below 15KM/H.If the driver tries to accelerate,the motor will cut off at 15KM/H.

NEW CEPAS COMPLIANT EZ-LINK CARD

A ez-link card reader of a SMRT bus.There will be two card readers at the entrance and exit(s)of every public bus in Singapore

This Adult CEPAS compliant ez-link card was introduced in 2009


The original Adult ez-link card was introduced in 2002

Now there is a 'hybrid' version of the ez-link card known as the CEPAS compliant ez-link card which is basically a combination of the original ez-link card and the CashCard.The new ez-link card can be used in the MRT,LRT,bus system as well as the Electronic Road Pricing(ERP)and to add on,can be used in electronic carparks.The old ez-link card is due to be phased out by 30 September 2009.Now there is 1 for 1 exchange of ez-link cards which is ongoing at all Transitlink offices and MRT and bus interchanges until 30 September 2009.



















SMRT YUTONG ZK6126

This photograph shows a Yutong ZK6126 in the SMRT livery in China.This photo was taken most likely near the Yutong bus factory itself.It is a demonstrator bus and SMRT has only ordered one bus of this kind.In a few months,this bus will be brought over to Singapore for revenue service.The China news mentioned that this bus has the Ez-link card readers installed.

NORTH EAST LINE CONTROL ROOM

This picture depicts a control room for the North East Line trains.The computers that control the trains are housed here.The staff will just monitor the trains' status and also look out for unusual activities that take place in the train.When unusual things happen,the Train Patrol Officers(TPO)will be there to check and render assistance when neccessary.

1.5M PLATFORM SCREEN DOORS(PSDs)AT MRT STATIONS



These pictures show 2 sets of 1.5M platform screen doors(PSDs) at Pasir Ris MRT station.Right now there would be 44 or 48 PSDs installed at Pasir Ris MRT station as testing of the PSDs will start next month.These PSDs will serve as a protective barrier for the commuters as there have a lot of deaths in the MRT system since its interception in 1987.The PSDs will not open unless a train is present.Signalling systems will synchronise the PSDs with the train doors and sensors will detect objects caught in between.Trains will not be able to depart if the PSDs are still open.Installation of PSDs will take place in Pasir Ris(almost complete),Yishun and Jurong East MRT stations.Installation of PSDs at the remaining 33 elevated MRT stations will start in 2010 and it is planned that the installation process will be completed in 2012.

These pictures depict a VPIS display on a Kawasaki Heavy Industries C751B undergoing a test program.The VPIS used to show train service information like the train's terminating station,doors closing warning messages,the current station the train is at,the next station,interchange stations,seasonal messages(Merry Christmas) and occasionally the date and time.The VPIS is currently turned off or turned on but could only display test messages and the date and time since the new announcement was introduced in early 2008.The VPIS will be replaced with vacuum florescent displays(VFDs) which is part of the SMRT Active Route Map Information System(STARIS).
